FRENCH FANCY

Yes, we're all well aware of the stalwarts of fashion from across the Channel - from Isabel Marant to Givenchy, Lanvin to Balmain.  But there are many more kids on the block out there just waiting to be discovered.

I'm not gonna lie, most of these brands are far pricier than the high street, but hold forth as their sales tend to be fabulous and well worth holding out for.... I have a lot of items from brands below which I've bought pre-loved (usually via Vestiaire Collective) and having signed up to each brand's newsletters (I know that is some people's pet hate but it's worth it) I know when the sales are a-coming.  I don't mind buying items from past collections so that's how I afford these brands as I wouldn't be able to fork out new season prices.  So don't be mad that this blog post isn't all about the bargains!!!

I've identified these smaller brands and chosen four examples from each current collection to give an example of what they're pedalling to give an insight into what each brand stands for.  Other brands worth checking out include Iro, Maison Kitsune, Des Petites HautsMusier ParisCarven and Sessun.

Picking only four examples proved quite difficult as each season these designers bring out highly desirable wares which account for why their brands are growing so fast and gaining their place in the fashion hierarchy - you'll just have to take a look at their sites yourself to discover more.  But in the meantime, here's a little taster ..........(links to each item are under photos)

MAJE - injecting a funky feel to its understated Parisian style.  From slogan western shirts to jazzed up tweed all working perfectly with a chunky biker boot.  Definitely doesn't take fashion too seriously.

MODETROTTER - fun and funky from playful prints and tees to sequin dungarees and metallic tailored trousers (and the best utility jumpsuit I've seen.....).  This is definitely a brand you don't see very often amongst the more structured classic French offerings.  Very hard to pick just four items from this one so I threw caution to the wind and chose six!!! .......

SANDRO - from bandana hems to slogan tees and sweats, like ice and a slice, Sandro adds a twist to each piece, mixing it up a little, making for highly wearable and desirable collections.

SUNCOO - I first discovered this brand via ASOS but it's also stocked via La Redoute.  Tres feminine - lots of brights mingling with prints and patterns.  Some unique pieces including this season's velour dungarees!!

SEZANE - this was France's first online fashion brand but there is now a London outlet, newly openend.  Worth checking out if only for their range of gorgeous denim which is highly sought after.  Otherwise it's beautiful staples with pretty detailing and the most awesome cord dungarees coming out this Autumn (see below).

(pink dungarees yet to be released)

ROUJE - this brand is footloose and fancy free, with a light hearted, flirty feel.  Its wrap dresses and blouses sell out almost instantly!!!  Their new camel coat is a winner for me.

CLAUDIE PIERLOT - a younger, cuter feel to this brand but it'd be a travesty to leave this one to youngsters only.  Casual and structured in places but with light hearted touches.

BA&SH - a brand much loved and endorsed by bloggers and celebrities alike.  Effortlessly cool with their new hoodies paired under a blazer.  Some gorgeous leather staples, perfect prints, big knits and on trend slouch boots this Autumn/Winter and not forgetting a slogan or two.

JOUR/NE - meaning day/night this brand will see you through from the day job to evening recreation with a fun and spirited edge.

MKT STUDIO - young relaxed feel, non fussy with a lower price point than some of the other brands mentioned.  Well designed pieces which fit together effortlessly.  Band tees paired effortlessly with a tweed suit, metallic bomber jackets and leather skirts.

LEON & HARPER - young at heart, big on tees and comfort.  This is more country casual than city slicker.
