ARE WE NEARLY THERE YET??......

........ well yes, technically, we have made it into the second week of spring. But that doesn't mean we can ditch every item of outerwear in the hope that we'll never see a cold or rainy day now until summer, even though the weather continues to tease us with the odd day of blazing sunshine.
While I reckon we can safely say goodbye to the big puffers or down jackets of winter, what can we use as a spring 'fling on' when the skies are grey but the temperature is far from cold??
My favourite throw on has to be a masculine style check overcoat from Bershka. These coats are perfect for any inclement weather that may be thrown our way. Often double breasted (my preferred) but not a trench, mac or jacket - fundamentally just a longline blazer. I've even been known to throw mine on over my PJ trousers when I had to do an early morning kid drop off and still got a compliment on my choice of outfit.
A smart coat paired with street style trainers and hoodies is a great look (perfectly illustrated by Baukjen - see below). Add in a pair of pleather leggings and you've got the perfect mix of smart Vs relaxed. Or take to another level with some turned up boyfriend jeans and on trend barely there strappy sandals. You can also throw a belt around these to cinch in at the waist to achieve a different shape (this looks lovely with a maxi dress under so you just see the kick of the skirt).
I have people say they can't wear these because they're short. Now you can't get much shorter than me at 5ft and mine doesn't swamp me at all. I also think they look better longer.
Now that most brands are hitting us with full on summer gear, now's the time to pick one of these longliners up in the last of the autumn/winter sales and outlets. Here's a round up of what I found out there including some colourful numbers (click links to buy) ....... Make hay while the sun shines as the saying goes ..........
Starting off with my favourite of the moment, this one from Zara in a great alternative check colour to the norm. This would be the perfect length on me as I'm fairly short and I prefer these coats a little longer .............
Here's the more muted, traditional check colours...........
Very similar to my Bershka one, love the red detailing running through this
Top Shop are spot on with this tailored number.
Can see it working with both boyfriend jeans and cowboy ankle boots or trainers and trackies
Then on to the more stand out versions ...........
This would look great with a leather belt around it and some high heels
OK, don't faint but check out the sale price of this.
I would totally love this (not available in my size sadly).
Another one in red.......
I think I featured this in my investment coat blog. Sandro tipped the scale with these coats last Winter. Still on sale and available.
Essentiel Antwerp's new collection is to die for, including this checked coat
